Your browser

Many sources only show their content when you're signed in — X, Xiaohongshu, paywalled media — and the cloud can't open them. With the waper browser extension, the agent can use the browser on your computer that's already signed in: open pages, read them, and, with your approval, click and type.

This needs the computer to be connected to waper (the desktop app or the command-line daemon) and online.

How it works

  • Only its own tabs: pages the agent opens go into a tab group named "waper", and it only works in those tabs. Your other tabs are always off limits.
  • Reading a page: it reads the visible text and the elements you can interact with (buttons, links, inputs). Password fields are never read.
  • Approvals: opening and reading pages happen directly; clicking and typing always ask first, because one click could post something or pay for something. Choose "Don't ask again for this" on the approval card and it stops asking. See Approvals.
  • While clicking and typing: waper brings its tab to the front (only within that tab's own window, without stealing focus from the window you're using), and the browser briefly shows a "started debugging this browser" bar, which disappears as soon as the action is done.

How it connects

The extension talks to waper on the same computer through the browser's official local channel (native messaging); no network port is opened. Only the waper extension can start this channel — other pages and extensions can't connect.

Supported browsers

Chromium-based browsers, version 116 or later:

  • macOS: Chrome (including Beta and Canary), Edge, Brave, Arc, Chromium;
  • Linux: Chrome (including Beta), Edge, Brave, Chromium.

Safari and Firefox aren't supported yet.

Install

  1. Register the local channel: the desktop app does this when it starts. With the command-line daemon, run:

    waper-node browser install

    It registers only the browsers already installed on the computer. If you install another browser later, reopen the desktop app or run the command again.

  2. Add the waper extension: the extension isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet; we'll link it here once it's listed. Until then, this feature isn't publicly available.
